Call For Papers




Any undergraduate and postgraduate students may propose papers on the following topics:

1)SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT OF ETHNIC MINORITIES


2)BIOTECHNOLOGY AND AGRICULTURE

3)SUSTAINABLE ECO-TOURISM

4)PRESERVATION: TRADITIONAL ARTS ON THE BRINK ON EXTINCTION


Dateline for submission of paper: 19th MARCH 2010.


Note: The paper must be submitted individually as only 4 delegates will represent their respective ASEAN country.

TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR PARTICIPANTS’ WORKING PAPER

Background
Participants’ working papers are essential in the execution of ASEAN LOGICS 2010. This working paper will serve as information on those four issues on local level ranging from specific communities up to the national level of ASEAN countries. These working papers are expected to describe the conditions related to any of the four issues faced by local communities or nations and the potential solutions to address them.

Goals

1.To comprehend the degree of participants’ knowledge and involvement in one of the four topics.
2.To serve as a starting point for participants in understanding the specific topic comprehensively and where to aim for future local and regional actions.
3.To provide quality materials for working group discussion in the programme.
Format Proposal
The title of a proposal should be concise, descriptive and preferably not exceeding 15 words and focus on the topic of preservation: Traditional Art on the brink of extinction, social development of ethnic minorities, biotechnology & agriculture and the last topic on the sustainable eco-tourism. The participants can choose one of the topics given. The proposal must include short introduction describing its main points, objective, problem statement, significant study on that issues, conceptual framework, methodology approach and conclusion.
The proposal should not exceed 2000 words or 4 printed pages.

All illustrations, including figures, charts and graphs, must be labeled and supplied on pages separate from the text. The desired placement in the text should be clearly indicated. These illustrations should be referred to and numbered serially as figures. The references style adopted should be consistent throughout the proposal. Footnoted information and appendices should only be used if they are absolutely necessary. The footnote should be type written on the bottom margin of the page and appropriately marked in the text.
References in the text should be denoted by giving the name(s) of the author(s) with the year of publication in parenthesis. All alphabetically ordered references list should be included at the end of the proposal. All references cited in the text must appear in the reference list. Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all information in the reference. References should follow the style of the latest version of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA).
Participants are advised to use Times New Roman 12-point font. Be especially careful when you are inserting special characters, as those inserted in different fonts may be replaced by different characters when converted to PDF files. It is well known that 'μ' will be replaced by other characters when fonts such as 'Symbol' or 'Mincho' are used. We recommend that participants prepare the text as a Microsoft Word file.


All proposal submitted to the ASEAN LOGICS must comply with these instructions.
Any non-compliance will not be entertained.It is the applicants’ responsibility to ensure that his or her submitted work does not infringe any existing copyright. Applicants should obtain permission to reproduce or adapt copyrighted material and provide evidence of approval upon submitting the final version of a proposal.
